Bankers Farewelled

TRIBUTE FROM COMMUNITY SERVICES TO HUTT VALLEY' Mr. 11. T. Abercrombie, manager of the Lower Hutt branch of the National Bank, who has been transferred to head office in Wellington, and Mr. C. Marchbanks, manager of the Lower Hutt branch of the Bank of New Zealand, who has been transferred to Masterton, were farewelled at an informal morning tea in the City Council Chambers on Monday. There was a large, and' representative attendance of business and professional men. The Mayor. Mr. E. P. Hay, who presided, expressed regret at the departure of Messrs. Abercrombie and Marchbanks, and wished them success and happiness in their new appointments Beth had served the community well, said Mr. Hay, and had made their customers their friends. They had played a bigpart in the welfare of the Hutt Valley. He congratulated them upon their promotion. Expressions of appreciation of the i services of the departing bank managers and tributes to their personal and business qualities were also made by Messrs. C. H. Griffin, W. E. Jones, N. T. Gillespie, G. R. Martin, K. G. Gibson (on behalf of the legal fraternity), J. V. Stevens (accountants), and Dr. H. G. Rix (medical profession).

Co-operation of Banks Mr. J. R. Lamb, manager of the Lower Hutt branch of the Bank of New South Wales, thanked Messrs. Abercrombie and Marchbanks for the co-operation and assistance received during their stay in Lower Hutt. All the banks.here tried to work amicably, which made life much more pleasant. The Mayor handed cheques to Messrs. Abercrombie and Marchbanks., with the good wishes of customers of the banks, "They are Jolly Good Fellows" was sung, and three cheers were given very heartily. The recipients feelingly acknowledged the gifts and the kindly sentiments expressed, and thanked the business and professional community for the co-operation and friendship they had always received. Mr, Abercrombie said that the twelve years he had spent in Lower Hutt were the happiest of his life. Mr. Abercrombie will be succeeded in Lower Hutt by Mr. E. G. Holdaway, and Mr. Marchbanks by Mr. A. P. O'Callaghan.
