* —— , . . DISTINGUISHED CAREER Dr. Diamond Jenness, the distinguished scholar, explorer, and author, who is re-visiting New Zealand on holiday after many years’ absence, was born in Lower Hutt, and is a brother o!' Mr. W. L. Jenness, of Lower Hutt, and Mr. L. Jenness, of Petone.

Dr. Jenness spent three winters in the Arctic regions as ethnologist with a Canadian expedition led by Steffansson, and made a special study of the life of the Esquimaux. Subsequently he gave a delightful account of his stay with these people in a book, “The People of the Twilight.” In addition, he is the author of a number of other popular works and scientific publications. On his return from the Arctic, Dr. Jenness settled in Canada. In 1925 he was appointed chief of the division of anthropology in the National Museum of Canada at Ottawa.
