SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED At a well-attended meeting held in the Walmari- Croquet pavilion Oi Friday evening, the annual report of the Hint Vallej Kose Society disclosed very satisfactory progress The auiumn roses in particular wen the besf experienced for souk- time. The lectures, pruning demonstration public and private rose shows wer< well attended. Many exhibitors at the various annual shows were successful, championships being obtained by Messrs. Geo. Cairns. W. il. Wilson, and Miss M. E. Greenwood. The Society's premier award, the C. C. Odlin Trophy, was won by Mr. W. H. Wilson with 10J points, closely follow, d by Mr. I'. J. Foot, Miss M. I-:. Greenwood, and Mrs. Mayo. This handsome cup is competed for or. a points basis on all shows held by the society, including kindred societies' sections open for competi-
tion to National Rose Society members only The National Rose Society Cups wetv won by Miss Greenwood at the East Harbour Horticultural Society's show and Mr. W. H. Wilson at the llut> Valley Horticultural Society's show.
During the year lectures were given by Messrs. T. Waugh, K. M. Porteous. 11. M. I bell. Ceo. Cairns, and W. 11. Wilson. Messrs. Anstis, Cairns, and Wilson were appointed National Rose Society official judges, with Messrs. E. W. Vettcll and F. J. Foot assistant judges. Mr. Frank Mason presented a number of Rose Annuals to the society's rose library. The report made mention of assistance given by various people and organisations and appreciation to the women who had provided supper at the evening functions. The Hutt News was thanked for publicity granted in its columns.
