HUTT MUSIC SOCIETY

PIANO GROUP

Another enjoyable mepting of the Piano Croup of the Hutt Valley Music Society was held at the home of the convenor. Mr. A. L. Harris, on Friday evening, about 65 members and friends being* present. A very intpresting talk on music in England, covering the period Immediately precpding and during the war years, was given by Mrs. Janet Hector. Her reminiscences included some very famous names in the musical worid and performances and concerts which many of those present would dearly love to have attended. Although conditions for audiences and artists were difficult during the blitz, the interest and love of good music wa.s always apparent and proved a great stimulus to the morale generally.

A programme of music by English composers was contributed by the following members: Mesdames Gentry and Bagnall, .Misses Hyder. Masters. Savage, Byrne. Pascoe. and Savers, and Mr. Peter Pooley, Mrs. Bagnall and Mr. Harris presenting a

two-piano item. In thanking those who contributed to the programme Mr. Harris remarked that the high standard attained was a most encouraging feature of the activities of the Group.

In order to provide a link with the Instrumental Group Miss Leone Pascoe was elected a liaison member. Accompanists for practices will probably come from that group.

The next meeting will take place on Friday. May 30, the school holidays Intervening.
