MINERS AND WATERSIDERS
(To the Editor.) Sir. —Now that the miners have resumed work ! suppose thousands of ns who ltoped to travel at Easter sire expected to forget that we were done out of spending the last holiday of the year in the way in which we intended. But our memories are not likely to be sis short-lived as that! We know now what we have to expect from a section of employees who showed a total disregard o! the rights and privileges of others, and there is general uneasiness regarding what the future holds if direct action is to rule. If not checked it can lead to nothing but chaos. To turn to another subject, we were told recently that the watersiders were eager to assure a quick •‘turn-around” of ships at New Zealand ports. Yet we read the other day that a stop-work meeting at Auckland lasted six hours, and it was then decided not to do any work for the rest of the day. And we cannot forget the Wanganui la incident. Sometimes 1 am inclined to think that the word “Labour” is a misnomer. for so many members of the party seem to spend much time In considering how they can avoid working. One wonders just what the end of such a policy will be. Many of us, enthused by the late Mr. ideals, helped to put the Labour Party into power, but, alarmed by present trends, we now sign ourselves EX-LABOUR.
