ENTHUSIASM FOR MUSIC
WHAT GISBORNE IS .DOING Mr. and Mrs. Lionel Harris, of Lower Hutt, returned last week from Gisborne, where, at the invitation of the newly-formed Gisborne branch of the British Music Society, they gave a piano recital, including several two-piano items. Mr. Harris is very commendatory regarding what has been done, in Gisborne musically. The branch of the British Music Society was formed only a 'few months ago, but already it has 80 in its piano group, 70 in the vocal group, and 50 or 60 in both the instrumental and recorded music groups.
The president is Mr. Wise, a business man and musician, whose enthusiasm was shown in a practical manner when he converted part of his factory into a music room to seat about 200 people, and installed two pianos, soft lighting, and a cinema projector for the screening of films of musicians. Some excellent talent has been discovered, and the enthusiasm of members is q.n inspiration.
What has been done at Gisborne should give a lead to musicians in the Hutt Valley. It shows that with sufficient enthusiasm success is assured.
