ELECTRICITY CONFERENCE
ANOMALY IN RATING HUTT MEMBERS HONOURED The Power Boards and Supply Authorities delegates met in Christchurch recently, a large number of representatives being present from ail parts of the Dominion. A remit sponsored by the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board was carried, urging the association to rectify the anomalous position where a local body rating on the annual rental valuation system can rate a supply authority’s distribution power lines. Under the unimproved value rating system this cannot be done, and it was considered that distribution lines should be placed under the same exemptions as water works, harbour works, and wharves, which are not liable for rates. At the conclusion of the conference four members of the Hutt Valley Power Board were honoured by being elected as members of various executive committees. Mr. S. Blackley was re-elected to the executive of the Power Boards Association, Mr. H. Green was elected the vicepresident of the New Zealand Supply Authorities Union of. Employers, Mr. I. R. Robinson, general manager, was appointed to the executive of the Electric Supply Authority Engineers’ Association, and the secretary, Mr. H. E. Mcßain, was elected to' the new executive'of the Power Boards’ Secretaries’ Association.
