HUTT VALLEY HARRIERS
BENNETT MEMORIAL SHIELD. On Saturday the Hutt Club made a bold bid to hold the Bennett Memorial Shield, 7 miles, but < were beaten by Brooklyn and University. The Hutt runners, J. Cook, J. Crosbie, M. and W. Smith, did what was asked of them, but the improving Brooklyn and University teams were too good for them on the day. The Club's B team performed well, filling seventh place. The best of this team were F. Keddle, R. Goss, and A. Roadley. The provincial champion, C. Dickie, was the individual winner from his club mate, A. Barclay, of Brooklyn, with K. Wood (Olympic) third; C. Hawke ( University), fourth; P. Flanagan (Wellington), sth. Teams. —Brooklyn, 20 points; University, 51 points; Hutt, 56 points; Wellington, 67 points; Presbyterian, 74 points; Olympic, 79 points; Hutt B, 116 points; Scottish, 117 points. For the Juniors the Craig Cup race of three miles was decided. The individual honours' went to the consistent R. Read (Presbyterian Club), who is Wellington Junior Champion, turning in a time of 15min. 52sec. His club also scqred a handsome win from Wellington and Brooklyn. The Hutt Club members performed well in this race, as they are all on the young side. Teams.—Presbyterian, 8 points; Wellington and Brooklyn, equal, 26 points; Olympic, 33 points; Scottish, 47 points; Methodist, 52 points; Baptist. 74 points;* Hutt, 84 points. Members are reminded of the change of place for Saturday, September 2 Ist. This run will now be Held at the Petone West School.
