Employment in Industries
Returns of employment information received by the National Employment Service for a further eight industries operating in Wellington and Lower Hutt have been analysed. The return represents a complete coverage of the 555 units involved. The industries included in this portion of the survey are bush ing, quarrying, land and estate agencies, auctioneers, etc., hotels, boarding houses, restaurants, etc., laundries and dry cleaning establishments, theatres, cabarets, etc., and hospitals. The total labour force employed in these industries, with the vacancies at mid-April, 194t>, is as follows (figures for those under 21 years of age are in parenthesis): —Bower Hutt: Number of males employed, 53(i (56); vacancies, 29. Number of females, 27 7 (39); vacancies 28. Total employed, 813; total vacancies, 57.
