Grey (supply engineer) and other' officers of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board were warmly thanked for their excellent work, at. the annual meeting of the Board. Dr. Desmond McMahon, a graduate of Dublin University and now of Birmingham, England, has been appointed Director oi' the New South Wales Conservatorium of ! Music in Sydney, in succession to Dr. Edgar Bainton, who resigned recently. The salary is £1250 a year. Dr. Bainton is now visiting New Zealand as examiner for the' Royal College of Music.

Mr. A. W. Croskery (Shop Assistants' Federation) was elected president of the Now Zealand Federation of Labour at the annual conference. Mr. F. P.
