Radio Transmitters

HUTT VALLEY AMATEURS The re-opening of the SO-metre band to amateurs for purposes of transmitting and otherwise pursuing their hobby was celebrated in the Hutt Valley recently. The celebration took the form of a, Hamfast, and was well attended by amateurs and prospective amateurs, many recently returned from ■ overseas. Amateur activity had, of necessity during the war years, been engaged in highly important war work as operators, radio mechanics, etc., in various branches of the services, including radar, in which their previous knowledge of operating and radio fundamentals stood the country in good stead at a time when anyone with such technical knowledge was in great demand. At the little function marking the return of part of their frequency bands the Hutt Amateurs took the opportunity of "exhuming" the remains of "Ham Radio," which was regretfully "buried" in September, 1939', consisting of a miniature coffin containing old .condensers, coils, bits of wire, etc., and so amateur radio in the Hutt Valley was officially "re-born."
