iXTOC'I ORATE AM) CLUB MEETINGS IN LOWER HUTT Meetings of the Hutt Valley National I'arty and Club were held jointly in Wesley Hall on Thursday night. Mr. K. Savage, electorate president, presided overa large attendance. The president, Mr. V. A. Pool, presided over the annual meeting ol the National Club, and reported that the club’s second year had been one of considerable activity, and on occasions tiie accommodation was taxed to the utmost capacity. Meetings and parties held, during the year had been very successful. The membership at December til was 772. The financial position was very satisfactory. Should a new electorate be formed in the district — and he thought it would be—the club was in a position to give it assistance. Mr. Pool said the position of the National Party in the Hutt Valley was stronger than ever. The Clua rooms were the cenrte of party activities, not only for Lower Hutt but for outside districts as well. It was proposed that afternoon gatherings for women be held .fortnightly in the rooms. The thanks of the members were due to the womens committee, Mrs Borclc (hostess and manageress) and others. The following officers were appointed: President, Mr. V. A. Pool; vice-presidents, Mrs. G. D. Feist and Mr. P>. Mathliews; committee, Mesdames Harding Morris, Maurice Ralph, and Eric Williams, Misses Betty Hutton and Betty Gibb, Messrs G. A. Blundell, F. Cometti and W. A. Lewis; auditor, Mr. H. Hopkins. An All-time Record Mr R. Savage then resumed the chair for the meeting of the party of the electorate, and reported that the year had been one of great progress, the membership having reached an all-time record. The organiser, Mr. Fenton, had produced good results and the secretary (Mr. F. Greenaway) and others had done excellent work. The present year would be a vital one in the history of New Zealand, and he appealed u all to put forth their greatest effort When the electorates were made known—probably by the end of April or the beginning of May—it was expected. that there would be at least two in the Hutt. Mr. Savage stressed the serious ness of the issues facing the countrthis year. They were fighting for the freedom of themselves and their children and everyone should get into the struggle. After an address by Dr. O. J. Mazengarb (reported elsewhere) members adjourned for supper and a social hour in the club rooms. WOMEN’S SECTION The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the women’s section of the Hutt National Club:—Chairman, Mrs. F. Chesney; vice-chairman, Mrs. J. Vogel; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Harris. A successful year’s operations was reported.
