Right. Hon. W. Nash, Minister of Finance, Air. If. Combs, M.P. for Wellington Suburbs, Mr. R. B. Hammond, Assistant-Director of Housing to the Ministry of Works, and Mr. W. H. Hindle, president of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, were among the guests at last week’s meeting .of . the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which was addressed by Hon. R. Semple. # * W # Mr. J. W. Andrews, Mayor of Lower Hutt, who presided last week at the New Zealand Municipal Conference in Christchurch, returned on Saturday. Mr. T. G. Richardson, Town Clerk, has also returned. * # * * Mr. H. S. Dudding, who attended the Municipal Conference at Christchurch last week, returned to Lower Hutt on Saturday. Mr. Dudding was accompanied by Mrs. Dudding. * • # * Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Ralph returned to Lower Hutt last week after a comprehensive tour of the North Island. They went to Auckland via Palmerston North, Wanganui and New Plymouth, and returned via Gisborne and Napier. Mr Ralph is acting as relieving manager at the Regent Theatre, Wellington, for a few weeks. * • • « Mr. C. F. Shapeott, of Lower Hutt lias been appointed departmental inspector for the whole ol'_ New Zealand for the National Employment Service. He has been succeeded at the Lower Hutt Office by Mr. G. Satherley, who will be district employment officer. o * * * , Following the resignation of Mr. A. Taylor, owing to ill-health, Mr. F. Clifford has been appointed senior inspector to the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board. * « » » Mr. P. J. Burke, of the Shandon Golf Club, has been elected president of the Wellington Metropolitan Golf Association. ' Messrs H. A. Hansen (Shandon) and J. F. Pym (Hutt) have been elected members of the management committee. * # * * Mr. G. Jackson, managing director of Ford Motors, Ltd., who is expected back from a world tour shortly, is to be asked to address the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce on his experiences abroad. # # # * Mr. PI. W. P. C.ullon, who, for five and' a half years has been manager of the factory at Petone of Carreras, Ltd., Wellington, will leave for England shortly on a vacation. « * • • The Rev. E. W. Batts, who has been minister of the Lower Hutt Baptist Church for six years, will leave in the middle of May to undertake the pastorate of the Dunedill Baptist, Church (Hanover Street) * ft * * Second Lieutenant E. Daniels, Flight Officer L. M. Burt, and Sergeant T. P. Stevens, of Lower Hutt, will return -to New Zealand this -week by the liner Arawa.
