SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT

MOTORIST FAILED TO STOP In the Police Court, Lower Hutt, 'before Messrs H. G. Hume and A. A. Davies, J's.P., Frederick George Thomas, company manager, Lower tiutt, was charged that, being the Jriver of a motor car on December 2, on the Stokes Valley Road, where an accident arising from the use of the car occurred to a motor vehicle in charge of Reginald George Goble, ,ie failed to stop. He was also charged with negligently driving a car on a road to which the public had access. A please of guilty was entered. Senior Sergeant Sugrue conducted the case for the police. Reginald Goble, painter, Stokes Valley, gave evidence that at about 8.50 p.m on December 2 -he was driving a motor truck in which there were three other adults and a child. A car coming from the opposite direction collided with the truck, damaging the mudguard, running board and door. There was a loud 'crash when th°e collision occurred •and the two women passengers were thrown out on to the grass. Colin Charles Hayward, press clicker, Lower Hutt, who was a passenger in Thomas's car, at the time ■ol the accident, said the car was on the correct side and was not driven at an excessive speed. When the collision occurred he told Thomas and asked him to stop, but he did not do so. Later he returned with accused along Stokes Valley Road and passed the scene of the collision. The collision was more in the nature of a slight jar than a heavy impact. Accused in a statement, said that when he saw the truck approaching he dipped the car's lights. The car was being driven at from 12 to *ls miles an hour at the time of contact. He heard a click as though the car had struck something, but he went straight on, as he did not think it could have done any serious damage. He thought that the car had just clicked against the bumper. Evidence was also given by Constables Lissette, Pullman and Grubb.

Accused was committed for sen'tence.
