"MOST SPECTACULAR"
GROWTH OP LOWER HUTT The acting-Prime Minister, Hon. W. Nash, in a statement dealing with population trends as revealed by the interim results of the census held in New Zealand recently, says: "Most spectacular has been the guowth in the population of Lower Hutt City from 17,772 in 1936 to 31,190 in 1945, representing a 75.5 per cent increase, and accounting for the major part of the increase of 22,916 shown for Wellington Urban Area.
The statement refers to the drift from the North Island to the South Island and from the rural areas to the towns.
