H.V. BAKERS MEET

The first annual gathering of the Hutt Valley Master Bakers and Pastrycooks was held in the Oddfellows Hall on Saturday last when a smoke concert was tendered by the local tradesmen to a number of visitors and allied trades.

Mr. J. B. Young, President of the local organisation, presided and in addressing the gathering said that the purpose of the function was not merely social but to also foster a real spirit of fellowship in the trade. "The baking trade", said Mr. Young, "would, like many other callings, be faced with many post-war problems, not the least of which would be rehabilitating returning tradesmen. Eulogistic reference was made to uie Wellington and New Zealand executives of the trade for the manner in which they were tackling presentday problems.

During the evening a lengthy toast list was honoured and musical and other items rendered by: Messrs. W. Lewis, J. Collins, L. Mcllvride, C. Cresswell and the president.
