Gas Board
ANNUAL MEETING HELD
At the annual -meeting of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Board, two nominations for chairman were received—Hon. J. Cumming, proposed by Mr. Horlor and seconded by Mr. Macfarlane, and Mr. Muir, moved by Mr. Cook and seconded by Mr. Jacobson. On a ballot being taken Mr. Muir was elected chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. W. Toomath was elected deputy chairman. The accounts committee comprises Messrs Cook, Horlor and Jacobson. Mr. Jacobson suggested that as the Board had been given notice by the Borough Council to vacate the present premises, that consideration be given to procuring a suitable site for the erection of its own premises. He moved that the board's officers bring down a report on sites available ancl an estimate of the cost. Mr. Toomath seconded the motion.
Mr. Horlor opposed the motion. At the present time the officers had enough to do in maintaining supply. The mover was thinking only, in terms of Petone. The site should be in the civic centre of tne Valley and would be better situated in the Hutt as being more central.
Mr. Muir: That question will later find its own level by business in Petone and Lower Hutt.
Mr. Cumming said an architect would liave to prepare plans and specifications. The time was not opportune at present. The premises being negotiated for now would be an ideal place. The motion was lost.
