PETITION T«> His Excellency the ttovernor-G-eneral The Government and Parliament of New Zealand By Your High Consent this Citizen Appeal we make to you. WHEREAS having known the ;weakness of Division and the Danger of Apathy in sight of Ruthless Aggression and Tyranny, while thousands of just people even while thinking "It cannot happen here" have fallen in helpless terror and destruction without any choice that ■was not #l'atal: having seen the vain endeavour of Classes that Cleave, Unions that Divide, Sects that Separate. Societies that Dissociate, while Treaties are Torn and Leagues Defied, all cutting across and dissecting each other, while Nations and Governments in precarious Neutrality fail in decisive Action until too late — it. has come to pass that the "Cause" of Manhood and Mankind has become the Urgent and Immediate 'Cause" of all persons adult and sane. We, The People, believe thai unless we Answer This Call we can not be sure of the safety of any Generation to come. Shelter for the Weak, Food for the Hungry, Aid for the Sick, and Rest for the Old and flu Weary, and the Distraught, is no longer a matter of loving care for our own only, but for All Mankind, and All Mankind must have assurance of These Things, or else Civilisation Peace and Happiness are not safe in the world for anyone. In a shocked and distressed world it is our strong and active desire to maintain Reason and Sanity, to awaken the drugged Psychology of Hope, and a living faith in 'the Inherent and Essential Goodness of Humanity; to give sympathy and Help now, and assure Protection in the future; not to give a mere utterance or ges- • ture of Good Intentions.
