Although war-lime regulations no longer permit correspondence in Esperanto to be sent, overseas, publications and news items concerning the international language co. tinue to arrive in New Zealand ana are of great interest to club members. At v the meeting of the Hutt Club held on Monday night, Mr. J. O'Leary, president, gave out the following item: Overseas News —Special by Air Mail London, August .3rd. —-At a wedding at Lisbon, Portugal, this week, the marriage service was read in Esperanlo. The bride was Marie Meredith Kraus, 22-year-old German girl and Esperanto expert, who left her country because of the Nazi aati-Cailiulie policy. She went tc Belgium and joined the Red Cross there as a nurse. The bridegroom was another Esperanto enthusiast, .John Castle Coleman, 28-year-old British film actor, who was in Hollywood completing an Esperanto film. The film finished, he sailea for Europe, and found Marie in the (battle zone. They did Red Crost. work together and also organised an Esperanto Information Bureau for refugees. When the Western front colldpsed, the two retreated with the French troops and crossed the Spanish frontier. Their wedding was of considerable interest and delegates from numerous Esperantist Societies attended the ceremony.
