Hutt Bowling Club

CLOSING NOTES

Before commencing play at the Hutt Bowling Club on Saturday afternoon, the president, Mr. E. F. Hollands, made feeling reference to the recent passing of two of the club's esteemed members — Messrs Bruce Baker and Andrew Scott.

Mr. Hollands made particular reference to the services Mr. Scott had rendered by undertaking the duties Of both the secretary and the treasurer when they were laid aside through illness. He had carried out the duties with his usual keenness and as one of Nature's gentlemen. His steadying influence would be greatly missed by members of the club. The president took the opportunity of welcoming back Messrs A. Williams and J. Davidson, the secretai'y and treasurer who had now returned to carry out their respective duties after their illness. Members expressed their pleasure by hearty applause. Saturday last practically brought to a close the 1942-43 bowling season at the Hutt Club when a most enjoyable afternoon was spent with the annual fixtui-e, President versus Vice-President., resulting in a substantial win for the former.

Mr. Hollands announced that the big green would be closed on Monday, March 29th and play would pro bably continue for a little while longer on the small green. He commented on the tact that on both the first and last day the club had enjoyed perfect weather and the season had in every way been a most successful one. This was largely due to the untiring work of the green superintendent, Mr. P. S. Taylor, who had maintained the greens in excellent order throughout the season under difficult condition^. Championship PairsMr. Hollands read the following letter received from the secretary of the Wellington Bowling Centre: "I have been directed by the Executive Committee of the Wellington Bowling Centre to request you to convey to Messrs W. F. Hadwin and A. C. Mclntyre, the Centre's congratulations on their splendid performance in winning the Pairs Championship for 1943. The standard of bowling was excellent and the performance of the winners is deserving of very high praise which was frequently expressed by those who had the pleasure of witnessing the games. The performance of these two gentlemen in winning this event after the outstanding success in the Christmas and New Zealand tournaments is unprecedented in Wellington."
