STOKES VALLEY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

$ Mrs Summers presided over the June meeting of the Srokes Valley Women's Institute, and members expressed the wish that Mrs. Combe, the president, would soon be restored to good health after her recent illness. Appreciative letters were again received from Mrs. .Mitchell cm behalf of the lied Cross, lor ali the sowing and knitting done by the working groups. Mrs Swanson demonstrated to members the making of little filled six inch cushioned squares which, when sewn together, make ideal eiderdown quLits. Members are each to bring one cushion square a month for making into quilts. The choir sang two numbers and afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Huse and Henderson, following which an interesting talk was given by Mrs. Dowse on "Drama"—-its advancements and comparisons of past and present. The competition for best plain scones was won by Mis Allan with Mrs Kay second. Mrs, Small showed the best potato, thus holding the cup for the month. An interesting afternoon included a luing and Uuy for funds and vvs well patronised.
