STAINER'S "CRUCIFIXION"

The combined church choirs of Lower Hutt, under the baton of Mr. A. V. Stamp, of St. .Tames's Church, will render Stainer's well known cantata "Crucifixion" on Wednesday evening Ist April. The soloists will be: tenor, Mr. W. E. Saunders; basses, Messrs E. A. Surtees and Norman Smith. Mr. A. Ackroyd will preside at the organ. , . This performance will be preced- , ed by the combined monthly intercessory prayer service and it is hoped that the church will be filled , to capacity. In order jjint the correct spiritual r atmosphere may be attained it is I hoped that the congregation will be in their seats not later than 7.30, Flying Officer Rod F. Milne has been promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant, according to advice received by his Mr and Mrs. Alfred E. Milne, of 9o Cambridge Terrace. Flight-Lieut, Milne, who is; an old boy of the Hutt Valley High School, took up a short term commission in the Ii.A.F. a year before the outbreak of war, and although only 21 years of age, has seen considerable service in the Middle Fast and elsewhere. He was transferred some time ago from the Cold Coast of West Africa to England, and was married on 28th February to Miss Lee Bradshaw, of Manchester.
