FIRE FIGHTING DEMONSTRATION
* Ail interesting demonstration was given at the Hutt Valley High School last week when Mr. Alan Hardcastle explained the principles of dealing with incendiary bombs and fires. At the invitation of the Principal the senior scholars from the Primary Schools and the Convent attended and were greatly interested in the demonstration. Mr. Hardcastle, with the assistance of some of the pupils, demonstrated the best methods of dealing with incendiary bombs, and clearly showed that the water method was more effective than the use of sand. The lowering of a person from the upper storey of a burning building, and the correct method of crawling through a room filled with smoke, also the rescue of an unconscious person and resusitation were practical examples given of fire fighting which could not fail to impress the large audience of children.
