ATHLETICS

LOWER HUTT CLUB At the annual general meeting"of the club there was a fair attend ance, and although the prospects for the coming season are not. as bright as in former years, (hose pre sent felt that the club should endeavour to carry on the iporting and social activities with as much enthusiasm that has always beiii displayed in the past. The election of officers resulted in most of last season's executive being once again appointed, and with such keen anl enterprising officials at the helm, the club hopes to hold its own and keep the club together until the war is over. Many club members are serving with the forces and if only as an obligation to those ex-mem-bers, those left here feel it their duty to endeavour to keep the sport of amateur athletics in Lower Hutt as active as possible. It has been decided to open ttte season on Monday, November 10th, on the Hutt Recreation Ground. Due to the black-out restrictions, the floodlights will not be available, and thus it is proposed to commence the weekly club meetings at 0 p.m. sharp. All members ar>j urged to do their utmost to be present, and prospective new members will be made welcome.

Cyclists,

In welcoming all cyclists to participate in the weekly club meetings (at which two events are always allotted for the cyclists) it is pointe'l out that any cyclists in the district are heartily invited to join up with the club. The club is affiliated with the Cycling Centre and has appointed delegates who are thus in a position to look after the interests of cyclists who desire to take advantage of the invitation to link up with the club. It is not so many years ago that the club boasted of "i strong cyclists' membership and there is no reason why this season should not again see the Lower Hutt Club with many cyclists in the ranks. The club has all the facilities for the training and controlling of cycling meetings, and by past experience the Wellington and district cyclists know that all the consideration and co-operation possible has been given by the club's officials.
