:V'*V'; WELLINGTON

; Lfttle interest was shown in the between the above teams, ■* whljh was won by Wellington 15 — " hard to scratch hard ,to * full fifteen, which was comi'' jfet hr accepting the services of 1 grade players, Grant and * CWftellly, who played' at first fiveeighth and respectively, ' and Treseder, who was on leave jr " tyoja Waioru Camp. Naturally good combination was not to be expected. Hutt enjoyed a monopoly t of tlhe ball from the set scrums, Pot- } ter being in great form as rake. A i' lot of bis good work was wasted, ' however, through a tendency on the 1/ part of some backs to lose possesL slon by kicking. Some of the kickI ing was justifiable, but a lot of it r was not. There were occasions when

the backs turned on some good | movements, in which much good I.: work was done by the inside backs, Grant and Millard. Slow passing l' from the scrum operated to Grant's I ' disadvantage on many occasions; in it spite of this he rarely dropped a f pass, but it often handicapped him In hiß attempts to get his outsides | going. Grant's backing up was a fea--1 ture of his play. He raced up inI aide Allison on one occasion to take | a reverse pass and score a nice try. I Millard put in some good work dur!ing the day and provided one of the feW highlights of the game when he sold quite a few dummies. Treseder . was 4iuite sound at centre, where he <|id some good tackling. Potter, on f*" the right wing, found his scoring op--11 portunities strictly limited. As „tpual he made a lot of his own play, Showing a good deal of initiative in I: this direction. Allison showed up well on the left wing, where he saw fe quite a lot of His tricky p* running often put his side in good K scoring positions. There is; no . doubt B.> about this player's improvement as B a wing three-quarter. At full-back ■ <J'Reilly commenced nervously. When Bj> he settled, down he fielded cleanly B|: and found touch accurately. The B match should give O'Reilly and B"■ (flint useful experience. The forK/ 4terds played patchy football. Burns ■ was a live wire in the loose, as also K was Marsden, who scored a sensaB tional try by a piece of quick thinkB Ing when he took a penalty kick, punted throqgh a gap, took the ball on the bounce and galloped through for a try. This bit of play took everyone by surprise. Cole backed up well, and Potter was one forward H. ,who followed up constantly. CasH gldy played one of his best games, ■t Corkin and Deas were good tight .workers. NOTES Oames have been.- arranged with teams for this Saturday for following grades—Third, Fourth Sixth. Players are asked to atthe gymnasium on their usual nights. On September 13th Hutt and Peseniors will play a match at Pein : aid of Patriotic funds. This give the selectors an opporof trying out some more players. By defeating Taita 14—12 on last, the Juniors made cerof the position of runners-up to in this grade. The match played under atrocious condithe Taita ground being under Brown, the Hutt captain, has been on the sick list for time, turned out again and led side in great style. The Hutt played the correct*' game for conditions prevailing, leaving the on the ground. The coach, Mr. Davidson, desires to thank all for their assistance during season. There will be no senior games week in view of the representamatch against Taranaki. On, followng Saturday, September the final round of senior games be played.
