SOLDIERS' CHRISTMAS PARCELS
1 PACKING TO COMMENCE Word has just heen received that Ijpyer Hutt's quota of nameless parcelt to be distributed at Christmas to ajembers of the 2nd N.Z.E.F., overseas, is to be 678. As the parcels ratine in value from 7/- to 10/each, the (provision and preparation of the quota will be a fairly heavy tuk. Past experience has proved, however, that the necessary support for any really deserving cause is always forthcoming from the citizens of Lower Hutt Cfty", and the Mayoress, Mrs. J. W. Andrews, and the secretary of the Patriotic Society, Mrs. W. P. Carter, are confident that this case will not prove an exception. It will be remembered that last year, in addition to providing the local quota, Lower Hutt assisted in making up Wellington's deficiency. On this occasion no appeal will be made for Christmas cakes, as these, together with cigarettes, cigarette papers totfpcco are to be suppied in lsn}k by .the National Patriotic Fund Board. It is proposed to prepare these Christmas parcels "at the Patriotic Room, opposite the King George Theatre, on the next 4wo monthly packing days, namely August 28th and September 25th. In the meantime donations of goods and cash may be left with Mrs. Andrews. Goods in particular demand are: handkerchiefs, tinned goods, ie.g. coffee arid milk, fruit, condensed milk or cream, meat or soup, barley sugar and soap (sealed in tins) and playing cards. Biscuits are donated each month by Messrs. Griffin and Sons Ltd;
