Scout Notes

We were very pleased indeed to receive a progress .report from one of our newly-formed troops—St. Patrick's Troop, Silverptream. Under "Barnacle's" enthusiastic leadership, the troop meets on alternate Sunday afternoons, and patrols every alternate Saturday. Scout activities are well under way, and at the district camp fire recently held for parents and friends we not only saw a dozen St. Patrick's boys along, but they turned on a jolly good item. "Barnacle" himself is' a cheery song leader, and all his boys are as keen as he is so, they are sure to make their Scouting worth while. Te Puni Troop have just written in to say that a party of Scouts and Scouters recently spent, an enjoyable week-end at their camping site "Somewhere in. the Wainuis." (This "somewhere" is very catching.) On Saturday night they held a camp lire and on Sunday attended the usual "Scouts Own," conducted by a speaker who gave a talk about the Melanesian Mission. The party under "Mintie" carried out their usual monthly good turn by giving a hand with the church magazines. Last Wednesday the 3rd Lower Hutt Troop held a most enjoyable parents' evening. A good number of parents attended and helped the evening to go with a swing. The evening programme included several games, some patrol stunts and plays, and concluded with a camp fire and supper. The camp fire was a really fine one, and the singing and items were most rousing. It was agreed by all that the camp fire was one of the best they had had for a long time. The evening was in every way successful. The next district camp fire will be held on Saturday, 25th, at Ist Lower Hutt hall. If it is fine it will be held on the river bank outside the hall. Don't forget to bring your camp fire blankets. "RU" and "TAWAI."
