Talbot held his lead and breasted the tape for a popular win. 50 Yards Open: G. Quinn 1; IV. Jackson 2; C. Talbot 3. Junior 50 Yards: A. Ryan 1; F. Seymour 2; B. Treen 3. One Mile Cycle: P. Anderson 1; S. Webber 2; H. Laurie 3. Form shown at this meeting augurs well for the coming season, and the club should certainly occupy a prominent position in interclub contests to be decided later in the season. (Notes by G.T.) A runner who took the eye on Wednesday last was Alf Ryan. This boy has the natural speed so essential to any runner, and under the capable tuition of Graham Quinn should make his presence felt in junior races. Graham Quinn, 1937-38 National Sprint Champion, now residing in Petone, will be a regular competitor at the club's Wednesday evening meetings. Tom Rowe was successful in defeating the trotter in the special match race held at the Youth Pageant recently, but suffered a severe spill later in the evening. This will handicap Tom for a while in his training operations, but he still remains your scribe's No. 1 pick for the Laykold Cup.

McGregor, a new-comer to athletics, showed encouraging form in the half and while his condition lasted, showed plenty of cheek.

It will be interesting to see how Pat Roe shapes on the track this season. Pat has been riding really well on the road this year, and his second to Amey in the 100 kilometre race shows he is right on his

mettle. It has been argued time and time again that Pat Roe is as good as brother Tom, but Pat has the hardest" part to do to prove that. Athletes and cyclists should note that entries for the Laykold Cup meeting, to be held on the Petone Recreation Ground on 25 th November, close with Mercery Department, James Smith's, and E. Lacey, cycle dealer, Jackson Street, on November 15th. Late entries will definitely not be taken this year. It is not usual for a father and son to be-opponents in a cycle race, but in the North Island cycling championship, conducted by the Auckland Cycling Club recently, Billy Hill, Auckland veteran, was riding against his son Douglas. Billy has a long record in cycling, and has the record of finishing in every race in which he has been a competitor since 1926. In 1933 he won the North Island championship. His son is the present track and road Junior champion of Auckland.
