LOWER HUTT CIVIC BAND

At a recent meeting of the Civic Band Committee, it was reported that the band contest at Christchurch was a financial success, and in . addition to receiving from the contest committee a letter appreciating its attendance and its contribution towards the success of the function, the band received from the secretary a cheque for the band's share of the profits. Tlie band, in acknowledging the amount, complimented the committee on the manner in which the contest was organised and expressed its appreciation of those citizens, especially Mr. Payne, who took a personal interest in its welfare, and who went to such pains to make the band's attendance a happy atfd memorable one. j The band decided to support the New Zealand Bands Association in its efforts to promote, at the Centennial celebratious, a C grade contest. It was decided to bring before the Wellington Band Association proposals relating to trio, and quartette' competitions in the direction "of a competition held annualll" between the winners of these events in the various affiliated bands. The next appearance of the band will be at the Riddiford Park on Sunday afternoon.
