Motor Cyclists Roar Their Spring Song

(By F.B). Spring has Its effect, too, upon ■those picturesque birds, 'the Motorcyclists. I observe signs that they arc tuning-up to herald it in a manner pleasing to their music-loving souls. I look forward to their Springsong with shuddering anticipation. I have noticed that some of them in our street are as busy as the birds in nesting time. They congregate rr.d flutter round their infernal macluiius with sinister devotion. I know what this portends. I .have studied their habits^ They are gregarious by nature, these motorcyclists, and it is frequently their wont to congregate just outside the front gate at night to indulge in a little community roaring. They will entertain the neighbourhood within a radius of five miles with oratorios, and nicely-blended orchestration; they will perform solo and in concert. Each tries to outroar the others,, until finally they all take flight and depart in a pandemonium which deiies description. After it is all over one could even tune-in. to the -Morons Jazz Session on the rSdio and almost like it. The Motorcyclist develops a mechanical Ear which is quick to d.tect any indiation that his machine is liat roaring up to form. When that happens he will neither eat nor sleep, but will tinker and fuss with his machine until he has coTrected the fault. Then you will hear him roaring round the block a few thousand times in a pandemonium of thanksgiving. When I see them on the wing I get the impression that they arc keeping just ahead of the sound of •their wild staccato explosions, and I sometimes woncTer whether they are not under the impression that their picturesque progress is practically silent.
