association with new ZEALAND SINCE 1826. The Riddiford family had been associated with New Zealand as far back as 1826, when Mr. Daniel Eiddiford was first emigration agent, said Mr. W. Toomath in a talk on early history at the quarterly ,meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last week. Mr. Daniel Eiddiford was followed by his son, Mr. E. J. Eiddiford, known as "King" Eiddiford, said Mr. Toomath. He recalled an incident when Mr. Eiddiford was driving along Molesworth Street with his mother to church. Mrs. Riddiford expressed admiration for the pair of horses he was driving but said she •would like them better with goldmounted harness. Mrs. Riddiford went to churcH and when she camb out tliero was the pair of horses with goldmounted harness. "King" Riddiford's devotion to his montheT was an outstanding object lesson to New Zealanders. It was said that she feared to express any wish because whatever it was he would gratify it.
