Successful Bazaar

Everything that was necessary to make a real old-fashioned bazaar was assembled at .the Lower Hutt Returned Soldiers' Association cM>rooms on Friday last. The ladies' auxiliary, in conjunction With the R.S.A. Ladies' Club, sponsored- this popular function which was opened by the mayoress, Mrs J. W. Andrews, early in the afternoon and continued until late in the evening. There were numerous booths gaily decked in all colours, a quaint cone-shaped kiosk for ice cream, bran .tuba for grown-ups and children. Mrs. Andrews, in her opening remarks, spoke of the history and activities ■of the Returned Soldiers' Association, so a*bly assisted by the ladies' committee, who had done much in furthering the steady .progress of the club and consolidating its prosperous condition. Mrs. Andrews was .presented with a shoulder spray, as also was Mrs. A. Robins (conveneT), who, with 'the wife of the president, Mrs A. E. PattinsOD, later entertained the mayoress at tea. The organisers o,f the bazaar were Mesdames A. Robins and D. Annear (conveners), and Mrs. G. Shand (secretary). The stalls and stallholders were as follows:—Sweets, Mesdames J. O'Meara and!E. Wilton; cakes, Mesdames H. Edwards "and A. E. Milne; books, Mrs. S. Dogson; produce, Mesdames D. Annear H. Taylor and W. Garrett; miscellaneous, Mesdames W. A. Hamilton and E. H. Woolley; novelties and toys, Mesdames Ray Brown and S. H. Ashton; afternoon tea, Mesdames E. Unsworth and A, Stedman; ice cream, Mesdames R. Cowie and G. L. Page; needlework, Mesdames (J. V. Potter and W. Evans; bran tub, Mrs. Shand; and competitions Mesdames P. McNicol and Mustard. A sponge competition, judged by Mrs Andrews, was won by Mrs Henry. The attractions weTe augmented in the evening by a darts contest in charge of Mr. A. J. .Staples, and compettiions organised by Messrs J. H. Taylor, D. Annear and J. Staples.
