CAR OWNERS PENALISED It is not generally known thut it is illegal for the owner of a motor-car to any passengers under an arrangement that they shall pay for or share the cost of the benzine, unless the vehicle is licensed specially. The fact that this is being done is liable lo be discovered if an accident occurs, as a ear-load of .people f'oiui I recently, and the discovery costs money, as was shown in the Magistrate's Court last week. The owner of the car was convicted and ordered to pay co>ts for operating a vehicle without a hire license, and her daughter was convicted and ordered to pay costs for not having it driving license. Sub-Inspector Denip sey told the Magistrate, Mr. K. I). Mosley, that the mother had slipped into the habit of driving people to work, and the passengers "put in" for the benzine. The licensed driver not being available one morning, the daughter drove the car, which . was carrying as many passengers as it would hold. The cur went into a skid and one of the passengers fell out.
