HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT
■ "The concert was a great su'cccsb .from every point of view," declared Mr. J. N. Millard, principal of the Hutt Valley High School, at last week's meeting of the board of governors. "Tho experiment of putting it on for two nights was fully justified, and on the second night there was scarcely a vacant seat in the house. "The total takings were £129/15/9, and the actual prolit was £91/G/I—the chief item of expenditure being £22/10/- for rent of theatre. The staff has de'dded -to donate £50 to the assembly hall fund. iOthex grants were voted for various purposes such as an additional roller for the grounds, seats for the gymnasium, 'band, school crockery, library, and iirst-aid outfits."
Mr. W. y. Dyer said that the staff should be congratulated oil the concert. I't liald! been a very fine effort.
Mr. J. 13. Grey said he had ibeen very ugrecubly surprised at itlic items given by the school 'band. The chairman, Mr. J. StonehQuse ( agreed that it had been a lino concert, and said he had lieaild! many favourable comments. He would net like to see any item singled out. A motion congratulating the staff was carried.
