LABOUR PARTY DANCE

Monday, June 22nd, the Labour Hall, Petone, was a gay scene of festivity on the occasion of the ninth annual ball j of the Petone Branch of the Labour Party. There was a record attendance, which was very gratifying to the energetic committee, who had spared 110 effort to make the function the success that it was. Much time must have been expended on the decorative setting alone, which was carried out in the three popular and patrotic colours, making a very striking and colourful background for the dancers, who indulged until the small hours of the morning in old time dancing 1 . - The rhythmic strains of tilt famous Vagabond Band set every foot tingling with its music and dancers singing merrily as they danced. A pleasing interlude was tap dancing' by little Miss Betty Paynter and Master R. Wilkin.s, who were heartily recalled. The ladies' committee, under the supervision of Mrs James Gumming, spared no expense or effort in providing an excellent supper, which was much appreciated by one and all. The guests of honour for the evening were the Hon. Walter Nash and Mrs Nash, the latter wearing handsome black viel mataJasse gown with small diamond clasp, Mr and Mrs W. W. Thompson (back crepe de chene) and Mr Bassett. Also present were j Mr Scholefleld, Mayor of Petone, and Mr Pike, of To Whiti, Masterton.
