HEALTH CAMP FUND.

LOWER HUTT ORGANISES. A meeting convened by Mr. A. Leslie (postmaster) and presided over by Mr. J. W. Andrews (mayor), was held in. Lower Hutt recently to make arrangements to" raise funds for the children's-Health Camp. Mr. Andrews said the hon, organiser aimed at raising £10,000 and as the largest amount previously raised in the Dominion in one year was £814 it could dc seen that a great effort was planned. ivir. Leslie said the effort Avas not to be conlined to the selling of health stamps; money would lie xaised by other means. The whole of the money raised in Lower Hutt would be spent on Lower Hutt children. Those present would be asked to form a committee as one of 1000 similar committees it was hoped to form in the Dominion. The following formed themselves into a committee with power to add to

their number:—Mrs. McKay and Miss Sealey (Girl Guides), Miss Lowe and Miss Jones (Lower Hutt Nursing Division), Messrs Ross (Ilutt Valley Kailway Ambulance Division), Johnston (Woburu Bowling Club), Wesley (Eastern Hutt School Committee), Gillies and Maxwell (Knox Church), the lev. H. Lloyd (Baptist Church), Messrs Barry (St. Vincent do Paul Society), A. J. Gearing (Hutt River Board), Adams (Association Football Club), Hewer (Loyal Rose of the Valley Lodge), Mrs. P. Dowse (general public), and Mr. J. W. Andrews (Lower Hutt Borough Council, Electric Power Board, and Relief Committee). Mrs. M. Kelly, of the Waimarie Croquet Club, wrote offering assistance and Miss, Soaley and Mr. A. J. Gearing each offered help from the Girl Guides and the Boy Scouts respectively. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs. J. Mitchell and Mrs. 11. Salt (Red Cross), Mrs. Cameron (Plunket Society), Captain Ramsay (Salvation Army), Revs. H. E. K. Fry), and J. E. Lopdell, and Messrs A. G. Powell (Brethren), Feist, W. H. Smith ("Hutt News"), J. Mitchell (River Board), N. Oldershaw (Swimming Club), Miss Jones was appointed, honorary secretary, and Mr. Leslie honorary treasurer. Mr. Andrews reported that the Lower Hutt Borough Council and the -Power Board had each promised to buy £10 worth of stamps, and Mr. Gearing

reported that the Itivcr Board had agreed to buy £5 worth On the motion of Mr. Gearing it was resolved to request the lion. organiser to ask the Government to subsidise the amount raised and also to make a contribution from the art unions. Mr. Gearing also suggested that tQ** make the -money available more quickly individuals, local bodies, and ether organisations should make direct donations in place of buying health Btamps. The next meeting will be held in the .council chambers on Wednesday, 25th iust, at S p.lll when any one interested will be cordially welcomed.

While regretting the loss of Mr. Tarrant to the community his many friends will wish him the future success his personal and professional quali.fications deserve.
