TROTTING (By "Unhoppled.") WELLINGTON'S WINTER MEETING CLASH OF CHAMPIONS. WILL WALLA WALLA WIN? Perhaps the greatest trotting event ever lickl in Welliugton will be staged by the Wellington Trotting Club at Hutt Park next Saturday, when the pick of the Dominion's pacers will light for supremacy against the Australian champion Walla Walla, and Auburn Lad. The distance of the event is one and a quarter 1 iles and given a fine day, the -Dominion grass track record for the distance will be in danger of being beaten. Since coming to the Dominion, Walla Walla has received a number of minor setbacks that have deprived him of lowering the mile record, and as late as last week the Australian champion pacer was just overcoming the effects of a slight cold, and this told against him at Oamaru last Saturday. However his owner states that he has fully recovered and that he confidently expecats his pacer to , torn the tables on Harold Logan and Red Shadow. The balance of the fields are well up to the usual high standard, and the Dominion Handicap of two miles, in which Indianapolis, Worthy Queen, and Craganour are nominated should bo an event with a thrill of its own. Indianapolis is a coming champion and Worthy Queen is perhaps tho best trotter produced in the Dominion. At the difference in handicaps, Worthy Queen should keep the pacers busy. ! 1 ' I 1 At time of writing the acceptances have not been declared, and the fields hereunder are the handicaps for the meeting. Blue Blood won recently at Manawatu, but will be meeting considerably stronger opposition. Prince Harvester has registered two scconds recently re gistering 3.30 2-5 at Ashburton recently. This is good form and should bo kep in mind. Billy Sundy won at Oamaru last Saturday and will be rehandicapped, which may allow some of the competitors to finish in front, of him. Tho locally trained Earl Bingen has a number of recent placed performances, when he was further back in the handicaps and ho might surprise by finishing into a place. Guy o' Mine is one of the most pro mising trotters in his class in commission. He won three races in ridiculously easy fashion at Wairarapa at Christmas time and has since been placed against the pacers. The most enquired lor may include Prince Harvester, Chiming Wrack, Billy Sundy, Earl Bingcn an uy o Mine, and the favourites may be GtJY 0' MINE and PRINCE HARVESTER (2) WOBURN HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; 3.13 class. Mig to the lack of form, the winner is usually well concealed. M. B. Edwards Sapling Stakes youngster, Gamble, is well thought of in the South, and at his only start to date he ran third at Waimato in 3.33 2-5. In that outing he appeared as if he*was somewhat aware of tlic strangeness of his surroundings bu he should show much improvement as a result of that race. Iraq ran secont a Amberley last month over this distanceon a slow course in 3.34 3-5, and it ram falls this week he should be remembered. Eed Flyer is a nice cut of a pacer who should soon show improvement. He ran second to Impostor at Ashburton last month in 3.25 1-5 and he should be one of the fancied division on the day. TriclifE has registered a third, a second and a third in Ins last three staits his best time being 3.35 1-5 when he ran third to Iraq. Wrackless won a couple of races against the trotters recently and at Hawcra he ran sccoik a ß aln » pacers. Electric Bell enjoys a local reputation. He won at Wairarapa at C - mas but has failed a number of times since. Charteris A ale and faupci L. 1 pear too far back in tho handicap to appeal. The most enquired for may be .
