; The annual meeting of the Western llutt-Belniont branch was held at the residence of Mrs. Lopdell recently. In the unavoidable absence of the president (Mrs. J. Mitchell), the chair i was taken by Mrs Lopdell. After the routine business of apologies, minutes ' and annual report, afternoon tea was serv ed by Mrs Lopdell. Mrs Florence Porter gave a most ink resting address on the progress of the Bible {society. Since its inception, .130 years ago, it has published -1-12 milbon volumes of the Scripture, which has involved an expendiure of over fHo.UOOjUOU. Last year twelve new versions of the Scriptures were printed bringing the total of languages to 067. Besides the help given lo Missions both at home and abroad, lo Churches and bunday Schools, a great work is tairied on by the Colporteurs and Bible women, who risk their lives to carry God's Word in their own tongues to their own people. Last year the' distribution of Scriptures through the world was: Luropc 1,1 iH),OUO copies; Asia, O, ( JUO,IHJU; Africa 3j-\000; South America, ol'S.000; Canada and Newfoundland L!li,000; Australia 17li,OUO; jew Zealand 31,01)0 aud Oceania -1,000. Although .New Zealand eontriutltcd over iidOOO last year, thai amount did not cover the cost. of the work iu New Zealand, so thai we are still dependent on the Society iu Lnglaud.
