MARVELLOUS and CREDITABLE.

There ■were babies of all sizes, complections, ages, fat babies, plump babies, sturdy Vj babies, laughing batbies, solemn babies, in fact every sort of babies that one •conld imagine always excepting erosg ibabies, and if there was a class for these, tiere were no competitors.l Happy, jolly,. well fed, contented, immaculate, and clad as only .good mo-. ghere «An clothe their babies, the show arena was a sight to gladden tie heart <jf any lover of his country. O#ing no donbt to the .Dominion Conference then^eing held at Wellington, the local Society's fete was •graced by the presence of sdme of'the pleading members throughout the Dominion. ' And tho of . these ladies, who?are thoroughly competent to judge,-was' (as is almost invariably i&e ease in connection with shows in the fiutt district), -that the quality of the exhibits was quite equal, if not superior to, any to fie seen in any part of the Dominion. There 'were thirteen boys- and girls under two years of age; nineteen und'eo one year, while jio less than twenty-three, including three sets of twins, epunted their ttges in month. The judge's awards rwere published last week and without douibt these champions woto well entitled to the positions they attained. The most universal opinion amongst was, however, that there wasn't .ia baiby competing that did not thoroTVgh' ly deserve a first prize. Every-resi-■dent in the district is, or ought to be, proud of the children in our midst, and Mehilq such hippy healthy little i^eople1 as were brought to the gala are to be aeen, there is little fear for the health and hstppiness of the manhood and wornrtjeaaood of the Hutt. We congratulawLthe Society on the success of their effort to demonstrate the splendid worfc T»ing carried on amongst tie mothers .and children of the district.
