NEW AUSTRALIAN SERVICES

An: important extension of the "Wireless Telephone Service between: Australia and Great Britain and the Continent of Europe has recently been inaugurated by Amalgamated Wireless iand telephony services are now available between. Australia and all parts of the united States, Cuba and certain parts of America. .

The service is being operated in Australia by Amalgamated Wireless' |n ©aajtnietioii. with tKe Commonwealth Postal Department, which, controls the land Euo.eS eoiiaeeting witii ihe wireless station. The Transatlantic Radio Service controls the connections between I<ondon and New York. This is operated by the British Post Office Department. The American Telephone and Telegraph Company operates the connecting lines be-' tweeid the TJnitedi States wireless stations, tand the telephone subscribers in the area being serviced^

: Mr E. T. ITisk, managing- director of Amalgamated Wireless in an interview Stated that the improvements in radio telephony in re^ceni months had been very great, and the company was now ready to undertake the Australian side of a radio telephony service direct with New York, Berlin^ PariSj the Dutch East Indies, or Fiji, as soon as a license was received rfroin the Government permitting this to be done.

Considerable progress has been" made with the tests being carried out with -the wireless telephone transmitting equipment manufactured by Amalgamated Wireless and supplied to the New Zealand Government, and) now installed ai the Government Badio Station at Tinar kori Hills, Wellington. Several stusoeHH ful conversations have been, recently carried out between Australia and Mr €L MclTainara/ Secretary of the N,Z. RMfli and Telegraph Department. _

A wireless telephone talk which will be unique has also been arranged between the Prime Minister, the Bt. Hem &. W. Forbes in London and the acting Prime Minister, Hon. B. A. Sansom is WeUingto^. Both the New Zealand and Commonwealth Postal Department van working hard to have the service opened at an early date. -
