Mitchell. ; Ttb.e board's engineer (Mr. H. Sladclen) was also present and presented the following report vvihiclx was adopted. SJISTGESTEER'S REPOBT. The engineer reported that practically Ino alteration hus taken place for °ome months due to the absence of floods. Good growth is taking place everywhere with the willows, and the better control of stock has greatly benefitted. One consequence of the absence of floods is that rather too much growth, is appearing on islands and beaches wbeope scour is desired. This may hinder to a ' small extent the channel development. Generally everything is satisfactory throughout the full reach of the river that is tinder the BoaTd's control Pag© and Mitchell and Top of Roavfcley's—There is no alteration since the iast report. The spit on the rigM bank has not altered. All the willow work is satisfactory with good growth. Ttoutfiley's.—- All. is satisfactory except that, as recently reported, atten-

tion is required to , the fence. The • fence consists of three barb wires with. posits spaced very wide apart and no crroppeas. 'Cattle are preventing proper growth' of willows, it is very necessary that a proper fence should -be eonst'mcted as this is probably the locality which, is most liable to damage of any under the Board's control.-This has already been one of the most costly •localities to the Board. Burke, now Huse.—Better protection of the willows from depredations o£> cattle has already -been beneficial. All is satisfactory in this reach. About two chains of wallow work extension downstream was completed about three weeks ago. |. Giescn's and Walker Island.— Th© central .channel has tended to deepen, slightly and there are indications that t&© next, flood may considea'aJbly improve it. Thouigh there is a possibility of the right ibank at the ibottom of Giesen 's being s attacked,,. the indications are that it is more likely that the right bank channel will tend to iill as a. resulit of the Veirs and groynes that have been established. The willow woiik that w/as carried out very kute in .tthe season at the .bottom of Giesen's, isr •g-rbwinig quite well, and is in fact, doing better thjan had ibeen anticipated. An extension of the willow and caJble work for about four ehadns dbfcra stream is now going to bo carried out.Andrew's Beach. All is-satisfactory, A small, stone spur is to be bliit at the bottom end to help to counter tho left bank spit which tends to extend) more than is dasired. The willows are growing well, except for a proportion . that from time to time is being destroyed by vandals. Dickie and J3tellin?s.-^-There is pa-ae-tiearly no alteration. Willows are all growing satisfactorily. Golf X»inks and Railway-Bend—-If any. thing, the channel has improved. All is satisfactory". • - Shingle Company Belmont Plant.— • Erection of the large dragline plant is in proga'ess. The anast has been erected and construction of hoppers etc is proceeding. The bridle cable has :beea erected. - Beach on left bank opposite Belmont plant.-^-Oarters have been removing! shingle .to a small: extent from unauthorised places, lrat attention is being given to this matter. Concrete Company's Plant atoov* Melling Bridge-^— This plant conidnueiß to remoive a considerable aimount of eihingle, with the result that the largo' acciJmuSLation against the left bank has been veiy considerably redruced, and much improvement is anticipated ihere after the next flood. ißognu'da and Adanis 's Plant.—.Operations continue steadily with this plant. FiUinig lias ;been partially earned: out in the' cut which, -had developed throiign the bank, as a result of cartimg from: *sic beaclh. The cootnpany has undertaiken to more effectively deal with this matter. Waiwetw Native Cemetery—lTresii draiwings fox a wall of a ■design desdaied! by the. native owners, nave been pre'parod, and'l'-.understand that it is inteno!«d by the natives, to sihortly proceed with the work. This matter has feeem discussed with Mt. Gearing. Seaibey Island and Aero OhjSb —A survey is in hiahd for the purpose of assisting to aseeiitain the area is I suitaible for t»iie purpose of the Atero Clufe, and also to arrive at an estimate of the proibable cost of such filling that might be required by the Board should it eventually be decided that the area toe used for the purpose. ■->, Access to Gamp Koad Property (Hegigie'&)v—-iLevels have been taken an>d a di»ajwiii.g prepared for a siuggest- | ed access.
