ST. JAMES'S CHURCH JUBILEE.

The Jubilee celebrations of the present St. James's Chureli will be held on Sunday, 9th November when Canon "Watson, uaitil recently vicar of St. Peter's, Wellington, and now Dioeessian. 'Missioner, will be the preacher at both ."morning and evening services. The vicar and the present-vestry feel that the parishioners of to-day would wishto show their thankfulness for the generosity of those early pioneers who were responsible for erecting the presnt churcJi, by attending special services of thanksgiving. The vestry has decided that the collections on Novem<ber 2nd and 9th IjTovomlbcr shall be divided between the new church fund, and the present needs of the church, and asks that a "gold collection" be made as an expression of thanksgiving on that day.. The trend of church feeling at the present time is towards straight-out giving. This is exemplified by two similar instances during the last month, in the Wellington Diocese— £240 in one case and £140 in another, 'being the collections for the one day. 'There are doubtless many who'have had blessings bestowed upon them in this I beautiful church. During its life, of 50|

years St. James's Ghtirch has conferred

the blessings of Baptism, Confirmation and Marriage on thousands of people, who can never erase from their memories the picture of that sacred tbuilding and its eharniing surroundings. JCt is •expected that many of these will embrace the oppoTtiinity of showing their thankfulness by attending the julbilee fteryieos. v ; Unfortunately the life of a wooden Ibuilding is liriiited and .St. James's is now showing signs of decay and the vestry,- in its wisdom, some two years ago decided' to open a special account, for the new church building fund. It is hoped that the present building -will last for a number of years yet and that fey periodical appeals to those who hawe the welfare of the church at heart, t&e fund may 'be so built up that. Jwhen the tim-e arrives to replace Hke ■present fbuilding it may 'be done in a inannr worthy of its beautiful surround- 4 ■in)g9 and of the impprtanoe the Lowe* [ Hutt will douibtless have attained when i that time arrives.
