When speaking at the fire brigade complimentary social last week on the subject of tie New Zealand Parliament, Mr. E. P. Bunny paid a high tribute to the great but unrecognised work of Edward Gibbon Wakefield, who had represented tie Hutt district in Parliament.- He had been one of the great men of the British Empire, which owed him a debt it could never Tepay. He had served not only New Zealand but South Australia, West Australia, and Canada, And it was largely due to his efforts that New Zealand was not a French colony to-day. One of his great
