METHODIST CHURCH.
A. well-attended and most enjoyable social evening took place on Wednesday night at the Waiwhotu Methodist Church. The Rev. A. Harding, who has recently 'been appointed minister in chaxge there, was in the chair, and in the course of his remarks, aaid that he hoped that such socials would be the means of making newcomers feel at home in the church. The Eev. H. Sharp was. also present, and chose, in illustration of his remarks, the Biblical ■quotation, /'I will build My church," «.nd the speaker said that in order to build successfully, it was necessary to put the chureib. before business, befoTe the club and before social life, In other words, it should come first. The programme commenced with a community sing, after which Mr. Thomas sang, Miss Fleteher contributed a violin solo; song, Miss Knight; humourous recitation, Mrs Boutell, of Wellington; cello, violin and piano item, Messrs -Potter with Mt. A. Ackroyd at the piano; song, Mr. Maud; humourous recitation, Mrs Boutell; trio, Messrs Potter and Ackroyd. Supper, provided by the Ladies' Guild followed, after which' two or three competitions terminated a very jolly evening.
