HARD UP DANCE

A ve*y jolly and well attended hardup dance, Jield under the. auspices of the *' Rovers' J took place in the Scouts X,. Hair on Thursday night. As the abject of the dance was a charitable one, namely, to raise funds for a Xnias tree, the orchestra, which was secuored iby Mr. T?:. TShomas, gave their services free. Mr. Thomas was at the piano ' and assisting him were Messrs Harlem, Givrry, Dunning and Winnie. Many of the costumes were very poverty stricken/ but in the opinion of Mt9. Thomas, the judge, Mrs. Barber's bore off the palm. She accordingly received a dainty coathanger and shoe trees in recognition of this fact. Mr. C. Hay ton proved to be the most hard-up gentleman, judging by his costume. Mr and Miss Holland secured second place and Miss Hay ton and Mr. Gray third. The hall was prettily decorated . with streamers and the supper arrangements were in charge of Mrs. Thomas and Mrs Hayton. The supper talble was in harmony with the costumes, being laden with ,biscuits, cheese, savaloys, bread and butter and weak teal Credit is due to the Rover leader, Mr. Hayton and Mr. Millier, the secretary, for their share in making the evening the success it undoubtedly was. Among those present were Mrs. Bayley, Mrs. Savill, Miss Savill, Miss Hayton, Miss Reid, Misses Boley (2), Miss Thomas, Miss Hall, Miss Oliver, Miss Vaughan, Miss Newell, Mrs.SNoble, Miss Tilbury, Miss McCloud (2) and Miss George. Amongst the gentlemen were Messrs Horlor (2), Oliver, Vaughan, Simpson, Miller, Tilbury, Wardlaw, Bagrty, Hayton (2), McEenzie, Ackhurst, Davies, Noble, Holland and Gray.
