HIGH SCHOOL CONCERT.

The fourf-i annual High School concert, organised 'by the Parents' Association was greeted with a packed and appreciative.- house on Tuesday night. The concert commenced with a Bright overture iby the High School orchestra, followed by a sketch ' ' The Patchwork Quilt/ 3, which includes a fantasy depicting .an old woman *s dreams. The poor old mother's memory is gone and the past alone is real to her. The scenes of her past life were very, -prettily acted. fPirs.t, the youthful bride and gToom^.t^en. th^ mother» | assisted by her small daughter, fasfii- | ioning a patch work quilt, each pat^fc "a tender memory.' The lighting effects in this scene were very charming and added greatly to its effectiveness. The characters were: '' Old Mrs Willis,'' (Mavis Grunn); "Anne Wendall, her (Valeric Feist); "Joe Wendall, Ann's husband, (D., Jenkins); v"Betty, their daughter, (Eunice Haden) and-in the fantasy "Molly/ (Mary Stirling) j "William/- (Molly Best); '' Emily,'' (Nancy Cartmer). The girls danced very daintily in the next item and their frocks arid garlands of flowers embodied all the charm of spring tide. iA primitive dance in costume concluded.a delightful ite'jri. The girls "were also h^ard in some pleasing glee singing. The \seeorid play "The Monkey's Paw" was most dramtic in. eiar.aetcr and depressing in effect. The sab Ject was^ ill chosen and. did not meet (with the general approval of the large •audience. It was fairly well acted iy I some of the past pupils of the school. | The caste was:—"Sergt-Major Mbrris :(F. Hasting); "Mr. White," (J. Hep!?worth); '^Mrs. White," (Avis EUiott); | "Heiibert" their son, (W. T. Taylor); '* A Gentleman," (D. Body). The second half of th programme also ,'included- a fine gymnasistio display b£j the Higi School boys. Tlie choice of •assisting artists was a particularly rhappy one. The inimitable Mr. Albert !Russell, Wellington's popular commeddan as usual "(brought down ttte house" iMiss Ngarie Coster delighted her audi ence with "Cradle 7Song" and was reccalied for a further number. "Mr. Wil- \ \buT Davies 's niaghifieent baritone vbic© was heard to advantage in *f The B?ing*B .IMinistrel," "The Sergeant Major <kn Parade" and another member. Mr. Ai. E. Biiusey was at tike piano.
