RUGBY SMOKE.

> HUTT CLUB.

The annual smoke concert of the Hutt Rugby Football Club was held in the Club fs gymnasium on Saturday night and there was a very laTge attendance. In the absence of Sir Alex. Roberts, the president of the club, the chair was occupied by Mr. Justin M. Power^ Apologies were also received from Messrs A. Mcßain, W. Judd, Dempsey and C. C Odlin. Btcjpresentatives were present from several neighbouring clubs and from the Wellington Rugby Union.

The chairman said t-hat the achievements, of the club during the past season had called for general admiration. He congratulated the club on its position in the A Grade and made special reference to E. Barry who had .proved himself a great forward. He ajsb referred 'to/A; E. Mr. W. Nash, M.P., spoke of the pleasure he derived by coming into eon tact. with the various Sporting bodies and said that they weVe each rendering a service to the Kjqmmtfaaiiy and training the youth of the ".country' He -recognised' tho work that was being done "by tSie-.ißugiby Union in assisting the game among our schools and. he urged his-hearers to exert the maximum pressure upon the local bodies to provide more playing areas. Mr. Millard proposed and Mr. Dpig replied to the toast of Hutt 3ftigby Cluib and said tn at the greatest pride of the district had been the sii'ceess of the senior team and was proud of the assistance t&o local player's who had taken part in representative matches had been to the Wellington Club. He also spoke highly of-the performance of tho lower grade players and said that it was only a master of a few years when the Hutt club would be at the top Of the tree. The Union, said Mr. Millard, is ddifig its best to provide grounds for the schools and is doing i£s duty in that direotioii even if the Borough Council is not. Mr. C. W. Dudding thanked the St. (jfohn Amibulaiice,. coupled with the Superintendent, Mr. A. **Black, for the assistance during the season. An excellent musical programme was supplied by Messrs Tenan, Heap&y, Rigby and the Love Trio. Mr. Belvie was at the piano, • On tho motion of the chairman a hearty vote of thanks was accorded ito the musicians and to the organiser, Mr. A.
