THISTLE v. HUTT, The above.; teams ihet at ; JLyall. B,ay Beserve last Saturday to decide which team should hold the Victory Cup for the ,1930-31 season. Thistle aTe t>he winners of the ehatapionship and have not ha*~d a defeat this season, so naturally they were very anxious to bring off the double. The teams were as follows :-r— , Thistle—Fletchre, Stopper, Montgomery, Werry, White, Arbuthnot, H. Hunter, Farquharson, Lothian, Cunningham and Jones. Hutt: —Bu'tland, Chapmkn, GardinQr,. Lands, MeDougall, %McSloy, Nieolle, Jessop, Borwn, erundvrell and BateSielor. .': . X V" .■ . l •. ■' ■'•...' ■;. The day was. anything but ideal, there being a heavy southerly wind blowing across the field with sharp showers of rain and hail. Nevertheless it was a hanl gamo; and interest was

maintainedright throughout the whole r From the kick off Thistle- in- { vaded Hutt's territory, w&ere their left wing forced a earner. This was cleared and MeDougall sent on a good pass to Batehelor wh6; sent across a good shot, but 'Fletcher 'brought off a great ' save. Keeping up the pressure Hufct 'secured- a corner.: jNTicolle placed'•well/ but Thistle were aible to clear. The 'Thistle centre half Was responsible for •transferring:-.play".to the Hutt end of the ficld^ -where Ohapmari beat Lothian and sent his forwards away_ once .more, I only .to be stopped by Hooper. Hutt kept the pressure up but. could get no more than a eorneiv kick. -■'■-. This Thistle was able to i clear, through Montgomery, find it was Hutt's, turn to defeiid, j ; 'but <3rardinei:;and Chapman were play- j ing a great ga"me-and ■kept the invai/ders ! out.-.. hail a good shot which Jbit the cross-ifear and from the | rebound Hutt was able to break away, per Lands and Jessop. Arbuthnot ' stopped the rush and Thistle were soon'! again attacking. From this movement ' Thistle were alble to draw first blood. Tthe ball was sent but to Jones who in . turn passed to Farquharson, who from close in >ent in a. low groimd shot 'which gave Butland no chance.: From the^kiek off Btuttmade a good attempt to equalise, but the chance was • lost when the ball went sailing over the top. Hutt still maintained the pressure .and were awarded a free kick when Cunningham fouled Jessop. Grardiner (took the kick and placed well. From this; Jessiip secured possession and had the (honour of equalising the score. Hutt phad hard luck when NTicolle had them j; all beaten and just lost the bjall as he •was; taking, his final kick. /"Thistle transferred play to the other end, but I/othian missed his chance when he sent the ball sailing over the top. Half time soiir.de/1 soon after. Play up till now had been very even, but in the second spell Hutt had the best of the game.

Hutt .made a good break away aud. were a])le to force a corner. .Tessop then tested Fletcher witK a stingei", but the big fellow likes theni high. It was a good attempt and a good Save. Thistle" then had another turn and Cunningham sent in a good shot.which But-, land sav-ed. In doing so he carried tie ball more' than three paces and a •free .kick was awarded Thistle. This was taiten by Lothian, who intendedto top the bail to Cunningham,, but Batchelor somehow anticipated this 'and cleverly ,mtercePt;e<l the pass and Hutt w-as thus able to clear. Hutt then made good efforts to score. Nic-olle again was robbed by Montgomery ; the same player forcing a corner which lie placed well. McDougall made a good attempt but Fletcher was equal to the occasion. Full time sounded soon after and an extra twenty minutes had to be played. Thistle re-arranged their •team in an effort to avert de-feat and thus have a re-play but Hutt set the pace and were the fittest team. During the second ten minutes Hutt were for. obstruction -and isfieollQ-sernt a low shot which •beat Met&her all the way, thus securing the Victory Cup for the Hutt. '

For Thistle. Fletcher, Montgomery, Arbuthnot and Farquharson were the pick. The Hutt team all played a good Jiard ganie. Butland made his first appeiaranco for the senior team and brought off some smart saves. Chapman and Gardiner^ are a fine pair of full backs, being the best in this Division, in the writer's opinion. Lands*' always seems: to play a good game against Thistle and Saturday was noexception. MeDou-gall proved himself a capable captain besides playing a splendid game^ in- which he ourt-gene-ralled Lothian, which is saying a lot M>>Sloy was also another new player, being .brought up from the reserve team. He was a bit slow until, well on in the second spell when he started to show out as one of the best and fittest halves on the field. The forwards all played well under the most unfavourable conditions.
