Gutry who has been in- charge of the Taita and Waiwhetu Methodist Churches has severed his connection with the Methodist Chur<& of New Zealand, and will shortly, be leaving, for America to continue his studies in the Boston University.The Bey. A. Harding, who is so well known and highly esteemed for his splendid work in t&e hospitals and amongst thel distressed has been appointed to take charge of Taita and Waiwhetu Church until the annual Conference appoints a probationer to succeed Mt. Gutry.

Next Sunday evening the. Bey. H. Sharp will commence a series of Sunday evening addresses on "Things that Matter Most, 1' The subject to be considered include '«Our TTriendships," "Ocr Beliefs-" "Out Pleasures," "Gambling," and "Spiritualism." At the M'dthodist Chuch on Sunday morning the choir will render the anthem "But the Lord is Mindful," and the solo "O Rest in the Lord" will besung by Miss Evelyn Robinson. In the evening the choir will sing the anthem "Hear My Prayer/ the soloist -being Master Winston Sharp.

Residents of Whites Line and district are notified by advertisieonent of the opening of a green grocery business at the corner of Wainui Road and, Whites Line. It- is the intention of Mrs. Jones, who has resided in the district for some years, to study the requirements of her customers and to build up a», clientele of satisfied patrons in this rapidly growing district.

The finals effort of the ladies of St. James's Church, who 'have been organising entertainments for the benefit of the : Church Furnishing ' Fund, will be hield in St. James's Hall, on Thursday next^ 11th inst, when a,dance will be held. An excellent entertainment has been arranged by The Bluebird Entertainers of Wellington for - the benefit of Ist Lower Hutt Girl Guides and will be hold in St. James's Hall on Tuesday *ext, 9th inst. The programme is a very varied one, containing vocal, instrumental, musical! and humorous items. Home-made cakes and sweets will be on sale. v

The local Red Gross Committee wishes to announce that the winner of tie lucky numiber competition for the tea set given by Mr. Gordon Duncan, is Mr. Gr. Linton, who guessed No. 37. The sum realised was 25/-. Mrs. Press, who kindly ran the night-dress competition, raised £4/5/6. which meant hard work, and the committee tender heT their grateful, thanks for the effort, which more than paid for the bolt of flannellette. ■
