. x Bladder or vegetable parchment, or well-flitting corks covered with resin or sealing-wax should be used for closing down, not screw tops with metal rings;
! Before proceeding to wash coloured materials, allow them to soak for an hour or so in cold water to which a generous amount of salt has been added. This keeps the colours from fading during washing. If despite this precaution the colours should suffer, they can be re- > vived by sponging the article or garment -with a mixture of equal parts household vinegar and cold water.
